  • Develop a support system for SE professionals and networking opportunities

Important to Note

  • KY APSE began with Volunteers from varying SE agencies and continues with volunteers from Supported Employment and other agencies (OVR, UK, Brain Injury Association, etc.)
  • It takes organization, hard work and a team effort to be successful; the chapter is always evolving.

Revised Mission Statement, 2002

To promote the improvement of Supported Employment services for persons with significant disabilities experiencing barriers to employment through education, advocacy, collaboration, policy change, elimination of barriers, empowerment and community participation.

The PATH process

  • Developed 10/03/02 with Steve Savage, Chair of Delegate Council – National APSE

PATH is a planning process used to assist people and organizations to achieve its vision (This was an excellent process!)
We hoped to use this information for:  future/strategic planning, to become organized with marketing, to become more involved in the state, etc.  Steve told us “If you want it to happen you have to see it first”… so we began planning and thought big!

OUR BIG ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

1. SE FUNDING INITIATIVE:  We have held 3 rallies and formed regional networks to make calls and send letters educating legislators about SE and people’s stories.

2.  Developed packet of information to be given to new board members, take to conference exhibits halls along with display board, give to potential new members, etc.

3. We have KY APSE pens, buttons and other promotional items.  The buttons were made by an SE consumer who owns his own business in KY.

4. Developed more partnerships such as KY Business Leadership Network. This has enabled KY APSE to have the business connections we needed.

5.  Regional trainings have been conducted on SSA issues and Advanced Job Development.

6.  Strong Legislative Connections have been formed as a result of the Funding Initiative and APSE’s Legislative Liaison, Willie Byrd

7.  Consumers have been sponsored to attend KY Annual Conferences

9.  Website has been created -  www.kyapse.org

10. News letter published yearly and sent to all SE providers & KY APSE members.
